The board of directors of the RioFest Environmental Film Festival has announced its “call for entries” to filmmakers for productions to be featured at the 2010 event. The two-day film fest is scheduled for Jan. 28-30, 2010, at Macey Center on the New Mexico Tech campus in Socorro, NM.

RioFest serves as a showcase for environmentally themed film productions. Its aim is to increase awareness for issues impacting the environment locally and globally, using film as a medium to share information.

Shorts, features, documentaries, narratives, animated and children’s films will all be considered. There is no cost to enter a film.

With our world facing environmental challenges on many levels, the theme for the 2010 RioFest is “Solutions.” While all environmentally relevant films will be considered, organizers are particularly interested in presenting films that offer remedies or alternatives in use of energy, wildlife preservation and issues impacting the environment.

Most people are aware of the environmental predicament that is affecting all of us ,” said Frances Deters, the film festival’s executive director. “What most people want is a way they can personally make a difference.”

RioFest is a non-competitive event open to all filmmakers. A selection committee will determines which films will be featured at next year’s festival through a democratic process.

Deters said approximately 50 films, varying from feature length to shorts, will be shown during the 2010 RioFest.

The call for entries is open until September 1, 2009. Submissions are to be sent to:
